Week Top Loves & Hates
Loves
QBs
Aaron Rodgers (Packers)- Another great matchup for Rodgers and he’s not the top projected QB? The Jaguars are the 30th ranked team against opposing QBs, and have given up 2,276 yards, 22 TDs with only 7 Ints. To paint an even better picture they have allowed a completion percentage of 68%, if the Jags continue this trend Rodgers will be able to dissect this defense. Add on top of that a favorable matchup for the Packer WRs (Jaguars rank 20th) and TEs (28th) #12 could be the Top performer.
Derek Carr (Raiders)- Carr has had his ups and downs this season, but with a Broncos defense this week it should be an up. The Broncos rank towards the bottom of the league against QBs 24th and WRs 25th. With Hunter Renfrow, Nelson Agholor playing well, not to mention the matchup nightmare Darren Waller it feels like Carr could have a strong showing this week.
RBs
Antonio Gibson/J.D. McKissic (Washington Football Team)- This is a combo writeup, not because I am unsure who will be better, but rather I think both could be strong plays. The Lions are now the worst team against RBs. They have allowed over 1,000 yards rushing, 10 TDs while also giving up 413 receiving yards and 5 TDs. Both Gibson and McKissic bring unique skills that create a tough scenario for the Lions to limit this RB duo. If you have to pick one I would lean towards McKissic because he’s healthy and Alex Smith showed last week that he is Captain Check-down.
Miles Sander (Eagles)- If Sanders is a go this week it will provide some much needed help for Carson Wentz. Sanders would take some pressure away and give the offense a spark. The Giants have allowed 717 yards, 5 TDs and 503 receiving yards and 3 TDs, ranking them 23rd against RBs. With Sanders’ ability as a runner and receiver he should run right through this defense.
Melvin Gordon (Broncos)- This one is a risky play because of how volatile the team has been. If it plays out like last week Gordon’s state line will be the same. If on the other hand the Broncos can take advantage of the Raiders poor run defense, Gordon could explode. With the Raiders giving up 753 yards, 8 TDs and 436 receiving yards and 2 TDs, it seems to favor Gordon more than Phillip Lindsay.
WRs
Robert Woods (Rams)- We have all witnessed just how terrible the Seahawks defense is, especially against the pass. Currently, the Seahawks are 32nd (so dead last) against WRs. With Woods and Cooper Kupp there is no chance the Seahawks limit either of their involvement. With how well Stefon Diggs did last week and how the Rams scheme mismatches, Woods is a must start.
Travis Fulgham (Eagles)- The former practice squad member, now ascending player, looks to continue his campaign. The Eagles got Jalen Reagor, Dallas Goedert, and hopefully Sanders back. Now that there are more players Fulgham will be able to get loose because the Giants can’t key on just him like they did in their previous matchup. Even with all these players returning, Fulgham has become Wentz’s go to target.
Allen Robinson (Bears)- Although the Bears are deficient at QB, Robinson has been able to bail the team out. Robinson is the 9th ranked WR this season in fantasy and this week he gets a Vikings team that is 30th against WRs. The Vikings have allowed 1,530 yards and 16 TDs. If the Bears can feed Robinson there is a chance they win, however if this game starts off with the Vikings ahead, there will be some serious garbage points.
TEs
Austin Hooper (Browns)- After a hiatus because of his stupid appendix, Hooper is back. Although Harrison Bryant was able to have his moment in the spotlight he will be pushed aside. The Texans have been bad against the pass, currently they rank 28th against QBs, 26th for WRs, and 23rd for TEs. With Hooper being utilized all over the field and a strong redzone option, I really like him this week.
Irv Smith Jr. (Vikings)- With the Bears defense being as strong as it is there has to be a weakness, their weakness is defending TEs. With the Vikings finally realizing they have a weapon in Smith, this is a game where he needs to be heavily involved. The Bears have allowed 48 receptions for 473 yards and 6 TDs to TEs. For the Vikings to make Kirk Cousins day comfortable they will need to make Smith a focal point and consistent option.
D/ST
Packers- After last week it seems like the Packers defense is starting to click. The defense was able to get the elusive takeaways and as we all know those come in bunches. With Gardner Minshew II most likely out again, the Packers should be able to get to the rookie Jake Luton.
Hates
QB
Justin Herbert (Chargers)- Could the hot hand of Herbert get extinguished? I think it will. The Dolphins defense is sneaky good against QBs, with the exception of Kyler Murray last week. Herbert does have the ability to take off and run, but it is nothing like Murray. Compound the lack of rushing ability with how the dolphins were able to take away DeAndre Hopkins, I just don’t have the best feeling. If the Dolphins can take away Keenan Allen I think Herbert has a decent day, just not what everybody might be expecting.
RB
D’Andre Swift (Lions)- Projected to score within the top 10? I think this is quite ambitious. For one the Washington Football Team has been top 10 against RBs. They have allowed 780 yards, 5 TDs and 147 receiving yards, 2TDs. This game could get away from the Lions and make them one dimensional. I am not as confident in Swift.
WR
Keenan Allen (Chargers)- If the Dolphins were able to shut down D-Hop last week, could they do it again? Don’t get me wrong I like Allen and I think he is a great player and one of the best route runners in The League, but he is not D-Hop. The Dolphins lifted D-Hop to 3 catches for 30 yards. I think the talented corners of the Dolphins should be able to stick to Allen and create some frustration.
TE
Mark Andrews (Ravens)- Could this be back-to-back disappointing weeks for Andrews? The Patriots have now become the best team against opposing TEs, by only allowing 294 yards and 1 TD. With the Patriots knowing Andrew’s is Lamar Jackson’s go to, they will undoubtably game plan for him. This is something the Patriots have been known for and they do it well.
