Injuries
Seahawks RBs- During the game Sunday night Chris Carson sustained a mid-foot sprain. The severity of the injury is still unknown (as of Monday) as we await the results of the MRI. Also in this game fellow RB Travis Homer went down with a knee contusion, and reports sound like he will be out for a week or two. This creates a void in the RB2 role for the Seahawks, so stay tuned for a sleeper that could help if both Carson and Homer are out.
Jeff Wilson Jr. (49ers)- My highlight for the waiver wire last week had a field day against the Pats, and then suffered a high ankle sprain. You’ve got to love the NFL and its mysterious ways. As we await the results, all indications are that he will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks, and could potentially land on IR. This means Jerick McKinnon will see his role further increase, but it also provides an opportunity to another.
Andy Dalton (Cowboys)- This injury write up isn’t specifically for Dalton, but rather the offensive weapons that now suffer. After one of the cheapest shots I have seen, Dalton was knocked out of the game and will enter the NFL’s concussion protocol. The Cowboys must now resort to rookie Ben DiNucci. The only players in this offense that I think are viable while we wait for Dalton to return are Amari Cooper and Ezekiel Elliot. The other WRs, and TE Dalton Schultz should get some targets but nothing like we have seen to this point. Going forward you must be careful when you start anyone other than Elliot and Cooper.
Odell Beckham Jr. (Browns)- OBJ will miss the remainder of the year as he suffered a torn ACL. Although we were not getting the OBJ of old, we were getting the excitement and other worldly potential. This injury now allows for Rashard Higgins to assume a bigger role in this offense, as he now becomes the number 2 receiver behind Jarvis Landry. But there’s another WR on the team that could provide the redzone/contested catch specialty. Keep reading for more.
Waiver Wire (Rostered percentages are based on ESPN leagues)
QB
Joe Burrow (Bengals)- I am going to keep hammering this point home until he is rostered in a majority of leagues, and I am not talking about those two QB leagues. You weirdos. Burrow needs to be rostered, and for most weeks a must start. Not only has Burrow been a fantasy star this year, but so has nearly all of the offensive weapons for the Bengals. With the current state of the Bengals’ defense allowing a lot of yards, and the amount of weapons Burrow has to throw to, you would be foolish to not roster him. Rostered in 57.2% of leagues.
RBs
JaMycal Hasty (49ers)- Hasty is the next man up in a completely battered 49ers backfield. First it was Raheem Mostert, then it was Tevin Coleman, now it was Jeff Wilson Jr., whom I highlighted as my top RB for the waiver wire last week. Well now, Jerick McKinnon will stay on as the lead back, but Hasty will be the number 2. In this 49ers offense no matter who is suited up, the number 1 or 2 backs could both be started. We will have to see if Kyle Shanahan will continue to implement both, or if he will favor McKinnon more heavily. But, in the mean time Hasty should be a target this week. Rostered in 6.6% of leagues.
Zack Moss (Bills)- The previous game against the Jets saw Moss, not Devin Singletary, be the workhorse and more consistent RB. Moss is a more traditional back, and one that has the build to withstand the punishment and take over. However, Moss most likely won’t be a must start this week, but seeing how much more efficient he was might make the Bills rethink who their lead back is. Keep an eye out for this one and be ready to snag him. Rostered in 41.4% of leagues.
WRs
Randall Cobb (Texans)- Cobb may not be the most explosive receiver or catch the most touchdowns for his team, but he is one consistent player. Throughout this season, Cobb has had multiple weeks of 10+ fantasy points with only two real duds. The Texans seem to be a pass heavy offense, and some of this might come from being in these shootouts, or the lack of a strong run game. Either way, Cobb has been a strong receiver thus far. With the Texans getting some weaker pass defenses the potential for strong outings seems likely. Rostered in 17.2% of leagues.
Brandon Aiyuk (49ers)- With Deebo Samuel slated to miss more time this season, the 49ers will again turn to the rookie Aiyuk. Aiyuk has shown the ability to stay healthy and continue develop. As a fantasy asset, Aiyuk brings not only a refined skill set as a pass catcher, but also the ability to be heavily utilized in the running game. With the 49ers dealing with numerous injuries on offense, Aiyuk seems to be the beneficiary. Rostered in 27% of leagues.
Cole Beasley (Bills)- Beasley has been one of the most reliable targets on this Bills offense. Despite having Stefon Diggs and John Brown, he still gets numerous targets each week and converts them. As a fantasy option, Beasley won’t normally wow you with his performance, but he also won’t leave you disappointed. With Bye weeks and injuries mounting up, consistent targets like Beasley are essential. If you are a team that is in desperate need for a pass catcher, look to Beasley. Rostered in 55.4% of leagues.
TEs
Richard Rodgers (Eagles)- With both Dallas Goedert and Zach Ertz still on IR, and most likely not returning until week 9 or 10, Rodgers should be heavily considered. Prior to the injuries the Eagles primarily used Rodgers as a blocking TE. Rodgers showed in his most recent performance that he is more than just a blocker, but could be a valuable pass catching option for a depleted Eagles team. With the Eagles getting a poor Cowboys team this week, Rodgers could be in for another strong performance. Rostered in 6.5% of leagues.
Harrison Bryant (Browns)- When Austin Hooper was out last week because of his appendectomy, I believed the team would turn to David Njoku, but boy was I wrong. The rookie and Mackey Award winner took center stage last week in the teams win over the Bengals. Bryant’s athleticism and ability was on display as he caught 4 of his 5 targets for 56 yards and 2 touchdowns. With Hooper likely out this week, Bryant has the ability to continue putting up good numbers, and maybe earning more time in the future. Rostered in 1.4% of leagues.
D/ST
Eagles- The Eagles defense gets to go up against the battered Cowboys offense, who will be starting DiNucci at QB. Although the Eagles might not have the same caliber of defensive line as the Washington Football Team, I completely expect them to apply tons of pressure. Defensive Coordinator Jim Schwartz is one of the most aggressive play callers, and with his defense getting a rookie QB making his first start, and a patchwork offensive line he’s probably salivating at this game. Rostered in 78.2% of leagues.
Sleepers
Nelson Agholor (Raiders)- The highly inconsistent WR formerly of the Eagles seems to have found a new light with the Raiders. So far this season it seems like Agholor can in fact catch the ball, and this new revelation has allowed him to score touchdowns. So far, Agholor has caught 4 touchdowns this season and put up fairly solid numbers. The trio of Henry Ruggs III, Darren Waller, and Agholor could be a high scoring machine. Rostered in 3% of leagues.
Donovan Peoples-Jones (Browns)- If you are looking for a super deep sleeper that could benefit from the OBJ injury, look no further than Peoples-Jones. Peoples-Jones’ ability after the catch and leaping ability should be heavily utilized in the redzone. I don’t think he will be the number 2 receiver, as Higgins looks to have that spot locked up. But, as a number 3 Peoples-Jones should be able to take advantage of his matchups. Rostered in 0.2% of leagues.
DeeJay Dallas (Seahawks)- With Carson sustaining a mid-foot sprain against the Cardinals, Carlos Hyde looks to take over as the lead back with Dallas being the compliment. However, this might not completely happen as Carson has shown a will to play through injuries. But, if Carson can’t play and is out for a couple of weeks Dallas has immense value as both a runner and receiver. This addition is heavily based on Carson’s health. Rostered in 0.5% of leagues.
